 Re: [place holder]
Well, DD, I think we should encourage the influx of new maps... and if TeeKaye took it upon herself to take the time to do it, even if we personally can't take part, I think it's good. It's not like the maps aren't available other days, nor having a Tuesday new map night would stop you, or someone else, from doing the same thing on another night.
That said, if there are those who want to take part, then it would be nice to have a day where most of those who want to, can.
But if TeeKaye can only do it Tuesdays, hell, let's not stop her; we still get the benefit from an influx of new maps even if we can't take part with their introduction.

 Re: [place holder]
I hear ya, Doc.
My intent is definitely not to discourage new maps. On the contrary, my intent is to make it valuable to the most people. Map night can do nothing but good. I always looked forward to map pack night on Thursdays on the old lab every week.
The main benefit of a dedicated night is that some of them are likely to "suck" or will be maps people don't want to take the time to learn. When that happens, non-regs tend to scatter and the server population goes down. Having a night when people plan on getting together reduces the chance that only 1 or 2 people will be left playing a new map. What I've experienced many times is that when new maps come up that I haven't played (there are still a few), a lot of people leave and there's not enough people left to play a good game. Kills the server and we don't get to play the map. On "map night" that doesn't happen as much.
I'm okay with whatever everyone decides, but we should all have a chance to talk about it before its just *boom* here it is. Chron does most all the work for it anyway, so if he's good I'm fine.

Yeah... I tend to favor people that show initiative.
That said, a vote for w/e day is fine. But the person who had the idea is by far the priority.

 Re: [place holder]
For Tuesday the 15th or Thursday the 17th (whichever) I nominate 6 maps, even if we only have time for some of them.
2 CP maps: Daylight Pirateslife_b2
2 CTF maps: s2a_Compound_Alpha Waterhole
2 PL maps: Chaser Outback
Some of these aren't really "New" but they never got played enough for people to get to know them when they did arrive. So, even if they showed up in May, they still feel new to me, since I haven't played any of them.

 Re: Tuesday New Map Day
we're sticking with tuesdays for now. it can be changed in the future if it proves to be a poor choice. right now i would just like to get the ball rolling. new maps can be played whenever an admin wants to pull them, it's not like they self destruct if they're played on some other day.
please keep comments or suggestions about map day to one of the other three threads, or PM me. i'd like to keep this post clean as a log of maps we've run.

Should we clean this thread of all the interim chatter (blame me) to keep it streamlined for your maps?

 Re: Tuesday New Map Day
So, what's the verdict on the new maps (google spreadsheet is restricted at work)? Any of them good? Wish I could have played.

 Re: Tuesday New Map Day
Well, of the maps I played, I enjoyed "No Mercy" and the 'reverse capture' (aurora?) and the industrial one (ooo great note taking Xase) and the two that I'm kinda meh on were the two that we had before...chaser and I forget the name of the other but it has a center capture area in an outside area in a ruined building (daylight?).

 Re: Tuesday New Map Day
No mercy was okay. seeing as it's the hospital of L4D, it's good quality, but not having played L4D i'm still getting lost. still, it was fun.
Daylight, not really a fan. 5 points are probably my least favourite gamemode, and nothing about Daylight was particularly interesting. it was just bland.
Chaser, ohmygodspamfest. it's too damn small. you couldn't call people on spawn camping if you tried. there's no other way to play it. we weren't even a full server and it was still a bitch. i'd rather play a proper plr game.
Aurora, i still like this one. only problem is, like odd_mainframe, you need to teach new people how to play every time it comes up. still, nice quality and a different twist.
S2A Compound, this was the one where RED had to keep away the intel and BLU had to cap. uh, i didn't really like it that much. the server was kinda divided. no one hated it, but no one was really attached either. we ended up forcing a map switch because it wasn't much fun.
Outback, needs more play. it's made to look like the area from Meet the Sniper, which is fun. it still needs tweaking, but i think it could be good.

 Re: Tuesday New Map Day
I came in a bit late so I missed some of them. If Chaser was the one with the carts going around kind of a square, I didn't like it. The whole concept just doesn't make sense to me.
I didn't like NoMercy at all but if others like it that's fine. I thought the points were hard to get to for the attacking team but maybe it's more from not knowing the map.
I think Aurora is pretty good once you understand it.
The keep the intel map I didn't like.
Outback has potential but damn near impossible to defend. The spawn points are too much in blue's favor. There are some good hiding places for spies. Settting up sentries is about useless as there is no place to keep them protected.
At the end we played one I'm guessing by the name was waterhole. It was really small with an island in the middle of a pond between the two bases. We only had a couple people left but basically it's a scout race. You could jump in the water in your base and swim accross into the other base. I think the idea was good but it's too small for a lot of people. Four on four or three on three would probably be good for this map.
Just my opinions
